To discover

 Le Lieu de Mémoire

The Lieu de Mémoire is dedicated to the story of the welcome, rescue and resistance by the inhabitants of the plateau around Le Chambon-sur-Lignon during the Second World War.

 The temple

Built in the 1820s, the current temple replaces the 1st temple destroyed in 1679 during the Wars of Religion.

The inscription on the pediment “Aimez-vous les uns les autres” (Love one another) recalls the long tradition of hospitality that characterizes the village and the plateau.
It was here, on June 23 1940, that pastors André Trocmé and Edouard Theis called on their parishioners to resist with “the weapons of the spirit”.

 L'Espace d'art contemporain

Les Roches is an artistic space comprising a gallery, workshop and art space. Arlette and Marc SIMON present their ceramics in their gallery and give workshops in their studio.
L’Espace d’art contemporain Les Roches organizes exhibitions, conferences, concerts, film screenings and more.

A little history

A village open to the world

In this Protestant land of respect for others, tolerance and openness to the world, Le Chambon-sur-Lignon, along with the other communes on the plateau, was a place of welcome and refuge for many persecuted people during the Second World War.
Nearly 90 of the people involved in this rescue, most of them anonymous, were honored as “Righteous Among the Nations”, a distinction that was also exceptionally awarded to Le Chambon-sur-Lignon and the other villages on the plateau in 1990.

Le Chambon-sur-Lignon is the only village in France to have been awarded the title of “Righteous Among the Nations” on behalf of the entire Plateau Vivarais-Lignon, and has a strong international reputation thanks to its history of hospitality and refuge during the Second World War.
