Lafayette celebrations in Tence?

And why not?

2 reasons :
  • A story of history lovers! Residents of Tence and the surrounding area. Around Joachim Leyronnas, a group of friends with a passion for history created a brand new association in February 2025 , “Mission Haute-Loire”, to organise this event. All its members are based in the area and have been working on the project for several years…
  • General Marquis de Lafayette was born in the Haute-Loire, admittedly in the west of the département, and many events take place there. But until now, nothing has been organised in the east of the department.

So why not in Tence? And General Lafayette’s motto will be the end of the story… And why not? Tence will be the setting for the Lafayette Festival.

An anniversary date and much more

6th September 1757

General Marquis de Lafayette was born on 6 September 1757 at the Château de Chavaniac. 6 September is his birthday. But 6 September 2025 is also the bicentenary of Lafayette’s last trip to the United States. And this year, 6 September falls on a Saturday!

The Lafayette show

During the Fêtes Lafayette in Tence, you can discover: the show “Lafayette, the American War of Independence. For one hour, the Marquis himself will rec ount his extraordinary epic alongside the Americans. You’ll understand just how crucial France’s role was in the final victory and why, even today, the “hero of two worlds” continues to be admired across the Atlantic… A show not to be missed! President Monroe had asked the American Congress to pass a resolution granting land in Louisiana in gratitude for services rendered in the cause of independence.
